BECTA Provides Sound MS Office Advice

BECTA is the UK Government's lead agency for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education.

It recently completed a study of Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 products. In that report it made specific recommendations that constitute sound advice for any organization.

Following the questionable adoption of the Microsoft-only OOXML as an ISO standard, BECTA is reiterating its advice. Specifically,

• No widespread deployment of Office 2007 should take place ...

• users of Office 2007 should NOT save any files in Microsoft's new Office format (OOXML)
