Microsoft Cynicism

Is it just me, or does it seem a little strange to you that Microsoft staff are not prepared to commit that their Office product will conform to the Office document file format that they are jumping through hoops to try to get adopted as an international standard?

To at least some people at Microsoft, this isn’t about meeting the needs of customers who want a stable, solid, vendor-neutral format for storing and managing documents. It’s just another skirmish with the open-source crowd and rivals like IBM, and all that matters is winning.
